Radiation Protection Course (English):
Important information: Last course in September 2026 !
Due to the decision of Ruhr University Bochum to gradually close RUBION in connection with the campus renovation, RUBION will no longer be able to offer radiation protection courses after 2026. The English radiation protection course will therefore be offered only one more time: 21. - 25.09.2026.
Please note that no further English radiation protection courses are planned by RUBION after this date. For information on possible future courses from 2027 onwards, please contact your faculty or institution.
Course information:
The course is intended to provide basic knowledge in radiation protection according to the relevant German regulations and guidelines. The course is an intensive one week course with mandatory attendance. The examination to earn credit points takes place on the last day of the course in written form. Information regarding schedule, meeting points and class room location will be sent to participants upon successful registration.
Please note:
This English course is an informational course based on the contents of the German S4.1 radiation protection course. This course is NOT intended to provide the specialized knowledge in radiation protection required under the “Specialized Knowledge Guidelines for Technology under the Radiation Protection Regulation.
Certificate:
No certificate will be issued for the English radiation protection course.
Participants will therefore not receive an official certificate of expertise (Fachkundenachweis) or any other formal radiation protection qualification after completing the course. If you require an official certificate or formal recognition for radiation protection work, please check in advance whether the German radiation protection course or another officially recognized course is required for your intended activity.
Recognition / credit points for students:
Students who would like to have the course recognized as part of their studies or credited towards their degree programme must clarify this directly, preferably in advance with their own examination office (Prüfungsamt) or responsible faculty. RUBION cannot confirm whether the course can be credited towards your degree programme.

There is no limited number of participants for the English radiation protection course.

• Legal foundations, recommendations and guidelines
• Duties and responsibilities of radiation protection officers and responsible persons
• Radiation protection measurement techniques
• Technical aspects of radiation protection
• Radiation protection safety
• Practical aspects of working with radioactive substances
